This is the third time now this has happened:

At any random moment (either almost directly after starting the engine, or after a somewhat longer drive) CEL comes on, Start/Stop is unavailable and car will only drive in N-mode regardless of DNA switch position while feeling more like A-mode.

This doesn't reset with 3 engine stop / start cycles but does eventually clear after a day or so, again pretty random in terms of condition, engine cold or warm or whatever.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

edit: not noticing anything about how the engine runs, idles, etc. All feels and sounds normal.

“START & STOP SYSTEM FAILURE
This telltale will illuminate to report a Stop & Start system failure.

Contact an authorized dealer as soon as possible to have the failure eliminated.”

Read somewhere here that start & stop will be disabled with any CEL, not only with a start & stop system failure.

Anyway yes will have it checked out with the dealer.

Look into CSN T57

I've been plagued with the same issue off and on since I got the car a year ago. Going in to the dealer tomorrow for the T57 update (you should have received a notice for this, FCA / Alfa Romeo is calling it a "Customer Satisfaction Notification" CSN-T57)

Really hoping this resolves the issue for good. Yes, I can technically still operate the car... but it's just not the same car in "N" mode. Honestly can't stand anything but "D" mode w/ manual shift engaged.

Check into this update. If you didn't receive a letter yet, I'd call the dealer anyway and reference CSN-T57.

Mine was a dealership demo, built in Feb 2017 and I bought it in Nov 2017, would i be wrong to assume the update has already been done?

Yes, that would be a bad assumption. The T57 “campaign” did not start until after you purchased the car. I think it was issued in Jan/Feb of 2018, but most of us did not get notified until a couple of months later. Suggest you make an appointment to get this done, and ask the dealer if there are any other outstanding RRTs or updates that need to be applied. There were 3-4 other things my car, built and purchased around same time as yours, needed when I took it in in April. Including update of Infotainment s/w to .055 level, replacement of glovebox door, addition of some type of gasket to hood close to the windshield.

Mine was a Jan 2017 build, so I imagine your service history should look similar to mine in the attached photos. I’d ask the dealer to pull this for you so you can compare.
