I've had a distinct growl upon application of the brakes (rear, I think) since new (1700 miles now).
Is this to be expected with CCM brakes?

Do you also have slight clicking noise? I had the growl at first and then also a clicking noise. The right rear outer pad was cracked/chipped after looking at it closely when washing the car. i was going rounds with the dealer over it, but it appears FCA is going to take care of it. I should have a final decision by Tuesday. I am the second person on the forum here with that issue. And trying to find replacement rear pads is next to impossible at the moment, unless you are Chris at Eurocompulsion. :wink2:

Mine is growling and clicking as well.

So is the growling abnormal as well as the clicking?

I'll have them check this when my car goes in on the 16th for all of the interior rattles.

Hey fellas, has anyone figured out what the growl is ? I?ve noticed the same on mine at 500 miles . Took it to service and they fear it may be drive line related . I have an appointment to drop it off Monday for diagnostics . Thoughts ...

While I'm not sure if this is exactly the cause, Carbon Ceramic brakes will always have a unique, rather loud sound to them compared to normal brakes. It's one of the "downfalls" of CC brakes. My dealer even mentioned it to me when ordering my QV. A lot of people complain about how loud CC brakes are.
I don't think I've ever described it as a growl, but I believe that noise is normal. Under decently hard braking from a fair speed, I've always described it as being similar, albeit much quieter, to the sound of a jet engine shutting down. Granted, I can't hear your car, so your "growl" might be different than the general CC loudness that I'm thinking about, so it might be worth checking with the dealership.

The clicking on the other hand? I'd get that checked out for sure.

it seems more cars ordered by the dealer (locally at least) are coming with this option, so silly question:p

when the CC rotors do wear out is it a simple downgrade to regular rotors & pads if one doesn't need or appreciate CC brakes, or are there electronics and different size calipers etc to consider?

There are different front calipers, pads and software to consider unfortunate,y so I suspect reverting to steel brakes will not be quite as straight forward...

thanks macca - my guess is even with the extra expense of calipers, it would be cheaper than replacing CC rotors.
big swap though
