Intermittent issue. I can go days without happening.
When driving, the gauge cluster will "reset"( all needles will go to zero ) for 2 seconds and when it recovers, I find that the car is now in neutral. I can then put it in drive and keep driving. The engine never turns off. No alerts or engine light.
This happens at different speeds including cruising at 65mph on the highway or accelarating from a stop.
I'm unable to duplicate the issue on demand.
Car is at the dealer today but have a bad feeling because they just called and wanted permission to drive around to try to duplicate the issue. It seems to me they don't have any codes pointing to the problem.

Anyone experienced same?

Sounds like you’re losing power to something. I know I say it all the time but my first thought is a possible battery issue (battery charge state MUST be above 65%, you can’t check this, only the dealer can in live data in the ECM). Otherwise it may have an intermittent connection issue somewhere, and judging by the low frequency in which it occurs, it will be very hard to find. I’m sure the dealer will be contacting AR tech support for help, hopefully they can find a resolution.

I had the transmission updates done and used it yesterday after repairs, the issue happened again. I drove it a total of three times and it happened once during on trip. I disagree that the battery charge has anything to do with this unless the battery is not holding power causing issues down stream
This is a very serious safety issue as it happened to me on highway at over 75mph and during turns when I needed power to drive away. Next step would be to report to NHTSA.
I go the car from Jim Ellis of Atlanta in May 2017. Giulia Q4

Hi Shreyas,

We wouldn't be able to provide any technical advice as to why you're experiencing this. We rely heavily on our dealerships in that regard. As you're still having trouble, send me a direct message with your VIN. I can escalate your inquiry to a Case Specialist for further handling.

Not I.

By all means, let them drive it. It's not that they don't believe you, it's that they need to experience the problem themselves, for several reasons.

The biggest reason is the until an Alfa tech can personally verify that there is an issue, FCA won't approve any type of solution, not even updates to known problems that others are experiencing. (I guess this is a belief thing)

Part of it is that without error codes stored in the system, the technician isn't sure where to start. The possibilities are endless at this point. It could be anything from a loose ground wire to a major component malfunction.

"What are the conditions when this happens?" is the first question. It could be something really bizarre, like only while turning left with the right blinker on and only while in A Mode. Or some other really lame scenario that has no logic.

Have they offered you a loaner car while yours is in the shop?

We're now in month 5 with our 2018 Giulia base and something similar happened recently when my wife was driving. 3 times in the last 3 weeks the car went into neutral while the Start/Stop was engaged. Once it went from Drive into manual, again while at Start/Stop. It hasn't happened when I've been driving. Right now we're wait and see to determine if there's a pattern but if this ever happens while the car is in motion the dealer will be contacted immediately.

2017 Giulia Q4 goes to neutral while in drive

Hello: Adding updates to this scary and extremely frustrating experience with Alfa Romeo.
So after the update excuse, the car had the same issue. Next change was shifter under a pretext that something sticky was in it, when there was none. Next came a brand new transmission and still the car went in neutral while in drive.
First time it happened at 70+MPH plus on interstate and next few times extremely dangerously while making turns at intersections. I have to instantly move the car to D mode to avoid a collision. In spite of being so patient and working closely with the local dealer, I have nothing. My garage is empty mostly for the last two plus months and I am paying for a car that I don't have. Company response and the lack of empathy to such a fatal issue is despicable and unbecoming of a premium brand. The issue was clearly demonstrated live to the service department of the local dealership.

The case was moved to Third Party dispute resolution company which offered me peanuts as compensation. Adding insult to issue. A better company would have seen the liability of putting us in that vehicle and our family in harms way and immediately replaced it with a new inventory. Like a family member joked, one should buy three Italian cars at one time hoping maybe one works.
We are deeply frustrated and disappointed with the brand. No complaint with the dealership as we see them as silient third party. Worst automobile buying decision I have made...........with no end in sight.

Not sure what to say except very sorry for your experience. Are you working with the Lemon vendor or is Third Party resolution something different? If the car is not safe to drive I would assume they would lemon or you would be insisting on it. I am sure it is a very frustrating experience and most people who have gone through the Lemon process seem to be made whole minus miles (which after not having the car for 2 months should be low). How bad is the offer? Most of the time they give you the buy-back or replacement offer and if differs between purchase and lease.

I have a problem when driving in A that the car will go into sailing mode (neutral, while coasting) and fail to come out of sailing mode when the accelerator is depressed. I do not get any cluster reset as described in the original post, so my issue may have a different cause..

I believe that I have isolated this to a faulty design of the transmission harness connector at the lower front left of the transmission. This connector is highly exposed to the elements and lacks sufficient protection to have long-term reliability. My last "fix" was to disconnect the battery, open the connector, saturate both sides with spray electrical contact cleaner, smear the female side with di-electric gel, and reassemble. I took the time to connect and disconnect the connector several times. Only time will tell if this was properly successful in rectifying the fault.

Note that "don't drive in A" does not really solve this fault. In other modes the transmission "forgets" to downshift or upshift from time to time. This is a little more subtle than the failure to come out of sailing mode but has the same root cause: faulty CANBUS communication between the PCM and TCM.

I had that happen to me on the way to Road America... I think it was an omen. Do you have Race mode mod? I feel as though that can confuse the auto start stop system while in A as the maps are N.
