no, it's not just you.
all the dentists experience this.

This happens to me all the time at stop lights. Don't know if it is out of respect for the car or if they are trying to figure out what it is.I've noticed a lot of drivers hanging out in my blindspot. I suppose trying to figure out what kind of car i'm in?
I have a Crosstrek..... I guess I’m a squirrel wanna be? LOLI've found most of the Asian-tuner kids (hatchbacks, S2000's/miata's, etc.) here are at least enough "car guys" that they appreciate an Alfa. The "Chump Effect (TM)" (minus Subaru exemptions) as I called it elsewhere really seems to strike people driving BMW's AND Mercedes C-klasse, AND Lexi (Lexuses?), and for some strange reason, quite a few large late-model pick-ups (can't figure that one out). The Subaru clause is that WHEREAS the folks driving Crosstrek's and Forester's all want to be squirrels someday, aren't car people, and so will take no notice, WHEREAS anyone who has either a real-life WRX or anything with gold wheels and a burp-can exhaust is prone to the Chump Effect.
I have also noticed the pick up truck phenomenon though.....However, mostly "Muscle" pick up trucks....Raptors and such............And I'm usually not extremely passive on the road, but always paying attention....Official squirrel hater and Crosstrek XV owner here.
Also a middle aged (MY2000) pickup truck owner. If I am passing you on a curvy road with my gutless overweight diesel truck with wonky suspension and crappy cheap tires, you need to learn how to drive properly and I am unlikely to give you any respect.
I have not noticed anyone gawking at my Giulia here in Teslaville. I have twice gotten "nice car", but that is about it. Maybe I am too busy paying attention to driving.
