When I brake moderately to hard coming to a stop, there's a loud thumping noise that seems to coincide with wheel rotation. Of course the dealer said bring it in. I can't pinpoint weather it's coming from one particular corner. Any thoughts as to what it could be? Not happy.

This happened to me at about the same mileage. Took it in the dealer and they were easily able to reproduce. There's a TSB for the issue which calls for replacement of rotors and brakes.

However, the mechanic bedded/burnished the brakes when I took it in (i.e. several cycles of heavy braking to heat them up) and the issue went away and has not returned since.

There isn't a tsb but there seems to have been a batch of contaminated rotors, dealer should be able to resolve quickly. If not pm me.

Posted this on another thread... brake knocking noise..under defects/recall tab. .

https://youtu.be/6aYCdfUiQwY

My noise since day two of ownership, still not fixed after 21 days and 17 days in the dealership. In their defense, Dealer is trying but no parts, waiting on pads/rotors. They can bake/bed/burn pads and make better but still unacceptable. Good luck.

Curious how they did this. Only possible while driving?

Its probably temporary as the material filled in and evened out the different friction zones. When it wears down to metal or "cleans" itself, the pulsing will return. It's in the metal of the rotor front to back. Came from a casting defect. Metal pour was not consistent or contaminated. Maybe think of it a smooth like a brillo pad in some regions, rough like heavy gauge steel wool in others. Has to be repoured.

It's been 3 weeks since they fixed the issue for me and it hasn't returned. They really heated the brakes up and then looked for temp inconsistencies on the rotors with an IR thermometer - found none. But if it's a casting defect I see what you're saying about the issue coming back. Just strange that it hasn't yet given that I've driven it 300+ miles since the issue was fixed.

I just had this issue coming up as well. Day 4 of ownership, almost 200 miles as well.

Question for those that had this issue fixed, how long did the dealer take to fix your issue?

I have the same sound and issue. I'm sending a note to my salesman tonight and will call the service dept. tomorrow. I really don't want to have to drive all the way to the dealership so soon. Is this dangerous, Will bedding the brakes make it go away? Next steps?

AlfaRomeoCares - please add me to the list.
