International media drive for the new Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio started on Tuesday and press members were given a chance to take a demo model around the Jabal Jais Mountain roads in the United Arab Emirates.

Of course, what’s a test drive without a photobook’s worth of images from every angle? CarScoops’ photographer was certainly kept busy with their 85 image album of the Stelvio’s range-topping variant.

From the inside, not much has changed in that cabin compared to a base-model Stelvio aside from some new carbon fibre trim pieces and Alcantara upholstery on the steering wheel. Similarly, the exterior only received a few updates including new bash plates, front bumper, exhaust system, and the extra clover badge.

But what matters are the changes made under its bonnet, where an inline-four used to call home now houses a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 engine. Shared with its sedan sibling, the Giulia Quadrifoglio, the unit delivers the same 505hp and 443lb-ft of torque to its all-wheel drive system via an 8-speed automatic gearbox. That’s enough to rocket its porky 1830kg frame from 0-60mph in just 3.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 177mph.

Following in the Giulia Qv’s footsteps, it even set a new SUV lap record at the infamous Nurburgring race track with a time of 7 minutes and 51.7 seconds.
