Alfa Romeo teamed up with Seen Though Glass for a week long test drive of the new Giulia.
Specifically, the Giulia 2.2 Turbo Diesel 180hp Super in white. They teamed up because Alfa Romeo felt that the 180 Super would have been a better daily driver than an Abarth and he’s out to prove them right.
With a starting price of £31,950, buyers won’t be seeing fine leathers more commonly found in Rolls Royce, but there’s something very appealing about the Giulia’s simplistic interior design. You’re going to be staring at the cabin a lot if the Giulia is being used as a daily driver, so you may as well love the interior. The steering wheel design has the traditional buttons on either side, with large paddle shifters and of course, the slightly flat bottom steering wheel. The instrument cluster isn’t all that special, but he does love how simple and clean the center console is.
The infotainment screen is large, but the main screen only takes up the central area unless the navigation function is being used. In navigation, the screen is split up to show the main map on the left and directions in a smaller square the right. It changes depending on what you’re using the screen for.
Over the course of the week, he managed to average 40.6 mpg. That doesn’t seem so bad until it’s compared to the Alfa Romeo estimated fuel consumption for the trim, which is 67.3 mpg. Maybe the difference can be attributed to him turning off the start/stop function.
Performance isn’t the most important element in the perfect daily drive, it’s the driving characteristics. The way it handles and balance feels great on the road. It’s the steering that won him over. Of course being able to accelerate quickly and the instant torque when in dynamic mode is a bonus.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia is a perfect daily driver.
