Over the weekend, my car alarm went off briefly twice (that I know of) after locking my car for no apparent reason. After these events, a display of "Attempted Break-In" (or something like that) was displayed when getting back in the car.

There was never any attempted break-in so I'm at a loss.

Does anyone know if there's a proximity sensor as part of the alarm? I was at the Barber Historic's in the Alfa corral and there were a lot of people looking at my car.

Thanks

Not sure about the alarm itself going off, but I feel like I get the "Attempted break-in" alert anytime someone gets close to it. Certainly if the door handle is pulled when it's locked.

I've noticed the alarm is quite sensitive. When I'm parked next to a buddy of mine who has a particularly loud exhaust, my alarm will go off when he starts his car. So I know loud noises/vibrations can make it go off.

Had same issue. Alarm went off 10+ times for no apparent reason while parked in my garage. Apparently there is a sensor inside on roof panel where interior light switches are located and mine was defective. Was a quick fix at my dealership except took a few days to get the part in.

Have had my QV for over a month now and that was the only issue that I have had. Fantastic car!

I researched that switch a few weeks ago, has something to do with arming the alarm so if someone tries to tow the car it'll set the alarm off.

I'll monitor this and if it happens anymore, I'll take it to the dealer which scares the heck out of me...

Has anyone have their alarm go off because of loud thunder?

@tadslc - Did you get this resolved? I'm having the same issue.

Bert,

Haven't had the issue come up again, that I'm aware of. I think it was people around the car or touching the car. There very well might be a proximity sensor, that was my initial thought. There seems to be 2 different alarm volumes also

The car was locked in my garage and the key was not on me. We walked around the car and a high pitched beeping started from the car. Not the wailing alarm I'd expect so I can see what @tdslc ;is talking about with the two different alarm tones.

More testing to be done.

Exactly

I think this is where the proximity sensor comes in. I've had cars in the past that have had this feature. If the car senses something odd around it, say somebody touches, bumps it or perhaps even thunder as has been stated previously, it sounds one type of alarm for a brief period. I had one alarm system that would just chirp if you got close to the car. If someone actually attempts to break into the car, a second louder, longer duration alarm sounds.

(I've just posted the below in another thread, but also posting here to give any participants in this thread closure.)

Our QV just went off at 5:30am on a freezing Sunday morning... Woke the whole household up, nice :S

Just inspected, couldn't see any damage. There did appear to be a moisture patch on the boot about the size of a cat or possum, smaller than a drop bear thankfully, so thinking was just a naughty animal. Good to know at least it works!

P.S. The kookaburras are now up also and they're laughing at us, those bastards.

What kind of internal sensor does Giulia have?
My S6 two cars back had infrared motion sensors....if mosquito was in the car when you locked it, the car would go coockoo with alarms....but you could at least switch the sensors off with switch button on b pillar....

Add us to the list.

Today we had the alarm trigger when the vehicle was sitting outside during a rain downpour.

Heavy rain, last night, mine was going off. Had to disable the alarm with the key. Anyone have a way to fix this? I don't want to always have to predict rain before bed and turn off the alarm.

Ideas? Thoughts?

Just a thought, I had a Range Rover alarm go off every morning as soon as the sun hit the hood, the metal slightly expanded and the sensor told the alarm someone was trying to break into my engine compartment. I'm surprised I wasn't murdered by an angry mob of my neighbors.
