Just looking to see if anyone else had or heard of this problem before I bring it in for service. I love this forum and have used it before to get helpful information (i.e. Tell the service advisor what's wrong with the car) prior to dropping off for service.

Anyway, I have just over 8k miles on my QV and started to notice a sound coming from the passenger side. Sounds like a buzzing or humming sound. Loud enough that I started turning up the stereo just to drown it out. Finally figured out that when I shut off the AC/heat fan, the sound is gone. Happening at start up and also randomly during the drive, but not consistent. I assume it's a bad fan blade, but haven't experienced this in any previous car.

Would appreciate any feedback if you have experienced anything similar or seen it on the forum. Did a search already and couldn't find it myself.

I've had my Ti since July and in the last month the blower motor has started to make a similar noise. It's faint but audible and high pitched like a bearing is going bad. When I turn off the fan, the noise stops. It's going to the dealer on Friday for an unrelated check engine light. I'll let you know what I find out.

Check to see if a small leaf or piece of paper got sucked it. This happens all the time in my Miata. The drum fans always do this and you get the water wheel, kid with a baseball card in his spokes buzzing effect. ;)

So after my car was at the dealership for 7 days, I have it back. The blower motor is still on order but the dealer said that they've seen a lot of these lately and they're just replacing the motors. Mine should arrive on Feb 2.

They flashed the ECM with new software for the check engine light and reseated the door panels which didn't fix the buzzing. I'm taking the car back in early February for the motor replacement and I'll sit with the Alfa tech to recreate the door panel buzzing.

Hope this helps and that it doesn't take you as long to get it fixed!

I just had my blower motor replaced a couple weeks ago and it resolved the issue.

For whatever reason the service tech had a hard time reproducing, so I sent them a video with me reproducing the issue.

I had a buzzing noise coming out of the passenger side fan when it got REALLY cold, but then went away as the car warmed up. Since it's been above 20 degrees lately I haven't heard it since. Yet another gremlin to take note of.....

I turned on the defrost for a few minutes the other night. As soon as I switched defrost off (and back to air-con), I heard a loud squealing noise, which changed in pitch depending on the fan speed setting (higher fan speed = higher pitch sound). I played with the various settings this morning and it still does it. The noise goes away at very slow fan speeds and it also goes away when I turn the defrost on, but comes back when the defrost is switched off again. sounds like debris on the fan blades. I'm going to see if this goes away on its own, if not I guess it's a call (the first one) to the Service Dept.

And I have also concluded recently that car fans have two speeds: "loud" and "not high enough." :)

I found the source of the high pitched whine. The passenger side center front air vent was about 99.5% shut off (wife didn’t like air in her face and adujusted it). When switching the defrost off, the fan comes on at high speed and the higher air pressure created a whistling noise through that almost shut vent. Any adjustment to that vent caused the noise to lessen and go away once the vent is opened a few % more.

Whenever I close one of the vents from the center control it buzzes on the passenger side. If I do it to the driver side it doesn’t buzz. My husband said it was because I was forcing all the air to one side. Okay. Not sure why it doesn’t happen if I switch from passenger to driver side but it blows cold air and I keep both open so no buzz so moved on.

I notice the buzzing or whirring noise sometimes on start up. I thought it sounded like the fans but the blower motor makes more sense. Is there a TSB on this?

Hi alfa55,

I would be happy to check if there are any TSBs that apply to your vehicle regarding the concern you have. Please send us your VIN and mileage to get started.

Hey there, I wanted to do a quick check with you. I just started hearing a noise associated with the AC vents, is this the same noise that you were hearing? Could that be the blower motor? It seems to go away when I turn off the blower fan. Does not matter whether AC is enabled or not.
