As per title...(maybe a question for MacGeek again? sorry Maca :))...

My understanding of Advanced Efficiency Mode is that it only fires 3 cylinders on one side of the V.

Just wondering:

  • Is it always just one specific V side that fires in this mode?
  • If it does only use one specific side and you used Advanced Efficiency Mode a lot, like most of the time, would it cause uneven wear after time that would cause other issues or drops in performance?

If any experts on the engine can shed some light, would be appreciated and interesting to hear.

Cheers

Yes, it's always the right bank that's deactivated (it has collapsible tappets for that purpose). It will stay deactivated for a maximum of ~100 seconds, to avoid excessive catalytic converter temperature drop, and lubrication to the right turbocharger will be cut off to avoid oil seepage.
