Add paddle shifters to a 2018+ Giulia?

I picked up a 2018 Giullia Q4 Lusso over the summer and am loving it so far. It's got every option I want except for paddle shifters. I talked to two Alfa dealers in my area (Northern CA) to see if they'd install them for me. But they both said that they are not able to do that. Has anybody had success with getting paddle shifters added by a dealer? One dealer said he might be able to do it if I'd give him the part numbers, but I can't find them online. He said that it doesn't come as an installable kit for my car.

I may have to try to order the parts on ebay and do it myself, but am hesitant to try this on a 2018+ since the ODB port is locked down and I'd have to pull some small wires and figure out how to reflash the ECU. I'll probably end up breaking something.

Here she is at the Concorso Italiano in Monterey parked next to a Stelvio.

YOu can do it, and it's not as crazy as you think.

You can get the paddles and associated column trim from ebay, or even an AR vendor.

In order to white to the ECM, you need a Security Gateway Module bypass (SGM bypass), a usb obd2 adapter, blue and greay adapter cables, and multiecuscan (MES). Alfissimo International sells a kit. If you search the site, you should be able to find a write up.

Welcome!!
Paddles are the only feature I really miss not having on my new Ti. I just figure I'll put up with it and maybe my next car can be a Quadrifoglio. Shifting with that feedback-devoid electronic shifter is definitely not satisfying compared to those heavy metal paddles.

I’ve asked my local Alfa dealer if this could be done on my 2020 Giulia Sprint. They informed it was uncertain that the correct wiring would be present. They would have to remove steering wheel to check first.
Could this be correct?
I have read that all the correct wiring is present, at least in the Giulias in North America. I can see a dealership wanting to verify that before telling you it can be done.

remove lower trim under steering wheel and look for black 2pin connector - usually is put into foam so it won't rattle
Paddleshifters from ENG Custom installed in my 2020 Giulia with SGW (bypass installed)
Easy diy job. Install took me about 30 min and then some 20 min MES fiddling.

Hey, so we need SGW bypass installed for car after 2018 right? Is it hard to install?

Very easy
Thanks for your video! Looks like the extension cables will make it much easier?

Thank you! Does the battery need to be turned off before unplug/plug this stuff? Or turning off the ignition/engine is good enough?

Based on the response from the person who made the video, one does’t have to…
