Not a great start

Picked up a new 2018 QV in Phoenix and drove it from the dealer to CA yesterday. Car didnít overheat but saw this when I got home. Now what? Any known issues with coolant leaks on new cars. I have 500 miles on it.

Can't tell you what to do but I would call the dealer you bought it from and have it towed at their expense to have the cooling system repaired. Could be as simple as a hose connection but let them deal with it and tell them you want the engine cleaned too. If they decide to have it repaired at a dealer closer to you that is their decision. Also, I would be polite and tell them it should be delivered back to your residence when repairs are complete. Might consider asking for loaner too.

Normally thatís exactly what Iíd do but the dealer is 500 miles away. They told me to call Afa Customer Care.

Seeing that mess on the underside of the hood makes me sad. Granted, any Alfa dealership can address any issues under warranty, but "call Alfa Customer Care" isn't the most caring response from the dealer who just got a bunch of $$ from you.

Definitely not a known issue but it happens. My brand new 2015 911 GTS also leaked coolant.

Hate to see this! Seems to me there is never being a flawless QV out there.

I would call and ask to speak to the dealership manager right away. Their response to your concern is absurd. Furthermore, I would remind them that if you give them bad reviews on their dealership evaluation it won't bode well for them from Alfa. Also, there are service managers from Alfa customer care that are all over this forum. I would start looking through some of the more obvious sites to find their contact information and reach out to them directly. Might try looking at the technical service bulletin and recall and warranty issues pages to see if you can find Alfa customer care contacts.

And an argument could be made that they sold it to you either in bad faith, or without properly inspecting it prior to sale. Either of those issues, if true, will get them into serious trouble and a dealership manager that cares would take it seriously and help you out.

Why not just take it to your local dealer and have it repaired under warranty. You’re clearly not going to drive 500 miles every time you need the car serviced, so find the best Alfa dealer in your area and say “fix it”.
